  • August 31, 2010 – Nestle, the world’s largest purchaser of coffee, announced Friday that it will invest $500 million Swiss Francs ($487 million U.S. Dollars) to address global issues such as responsible farming, sustainable sourcing, and consumption issues across its supply chain. READ MORE

  • August 27, 2010 – California regulators approved the United States’ first large scale solar thermal plant to be built in over 20 years, granting the license for the 250-MegaWatt Beacon Solar Energy Project to Nextera Energy Resources. The project will be built in Kern County, on the western edge of the Mojave Desert. READ MORE

  • August 26, 2010 - Ford Motor Company and Portland General Electric announced a collaboration yesterday, working together to share information on charging needs and requirements to ensure the electrical grid can support the necessary demand for electric vehicles, as well as partner on consumer education outreach around electric vehicles.   • August 17, 2010 – Humanity’s needs and use of natural resources will outstrip the Earth’s ability to replenish those resources by 50% in 2010, according to Global Footprint Network.  This statistic, called Ecological Overshoot, means it now takes our environment 18 months to regenerate and reabsorb the resources that we use in only 12 months.   • August 16, 2010 – Coinstar, a U.S. based kiosk operator with brands that include its flagship Coinstar machines as well as the popular “redbox” DVD rental kiosks in supermarkets, has announced an undisclosed investment in ecoATM, a maker of kiosks which pays consumers for recycling their old electronics.   • August 13, 2010 – UPS has teamed up with the U.S. Postal Service to launch UPS Returns Flexible Access, a new program that will allow customers to return products through their local postal carriers, which were originally shipped via UPS, with a unique label mailed in the original package.
