95% of Young Consumers "Concerned" About Global Warming

Feb. 25, 2008 - Ninety-five percent of children ages 4 to 15 are "concerned" about climate change, and more than half are "very concerned," according to a Nickelodeon U.K. survey. These so-called "greenagers" are prepared to put pressure on their parents to make more environmentally conscious lifestyle choices, Sky News reports.

In fact, three out of four respondents think they understand climate change better than their parents, noting that they learn more about environmental issues during school than at home.

Other highlights of the survey include:

  • 70% say climate change will affect them in their lifetime
  • 59% understand the concept of a "carbon footprint"
  • 85% think people should be more concerned about global warming
  • 96% say it is important to encourage other people to be more environmentally friendly

The research was conducted in preparation for "Nick's Big Green Thing," a week of environment-themed programming scheduled to air on British Nickelodeon.
