Survey: Consumers Still Skeptical on Green Products
Jan. 15, 2008 - Most consumers still think green products are too expensive, hard to use, and just plain ugly, according to a new EcoPinion survey. The survey exposes a significant gap between consumers' expressed concern for the environment and their willingness to adopt or purchase green products, services, and technologies.
Forty-six percent of consumers interviewed have adopted some form of green technology. And among those, feelings about green products tend to be positive. But those who have yet to try a green product or service tend to have negative perceptions about them, the report finds.
"Vendors of green products and services have a lot of work to do to educate and promote their value proposition," says Andrea Fabbri, COO and chief marketing officer at EcoAlign, which conducted the study.
Interestingly, the report finds that consumers age 55 and over are more likely overall to have adopted green technology and also more likely to view green tech in a positive light. Older consumers are traditionally considered late adopters of new technologies and practices.
