FTC Fast-Tracks Review of Green Marketing Claims
Nov. 27, 2007 Thanks to a slew of new green marketing claims, the Federal Trade Commission has bumped up regulatory review of its environmental marketing guidelines.
The guidelines, also called the Green Guides, have not been revised since 1998. While the next review was scheduled to begin in 2009, FTC says it is re-assessing the guides now "to ensure they reflect todays marketplace."
As part of the Green Guides review, the FTC will be holding public meetings or workshops on various green marketing topics. The first workshop, slated for Jan. 8, 2008, will address the marketing of carbon offsets and renewable energy certificates (RECs).
The initial comment period on the Green Guides will be open until Feb. 11, 2008.
