Kraft UK Partners with Terracycle for Coffee Bag Recycling

Share

September 1, 2009 - Kraft Foods UK has partnered with Terracycle to encourage people to collect and return packaging from two of its coffee brands, Kenco and Tassimo. Seeing the benefits of Terracycle's work in the U.S. in collecting waste from packaged goods companies, engaging kids with recycling, upcycling the waste into new products, and donating money to charity, Kraft wants to replicate that success beginning with these two brands.

In traditional Terracycle fashion, people will be encouraged to form groups known as volunteer brigades to collect packaging and send them to a centralized processing facility, while the company will also collect materials from the brands' factories. To encourage volunteer collections and recycling, Kraft covers the mailing costs and also donates two pence per packaging to the volunteer's charity of choice.

What becomes of the collected coffee packaging remains to be seen, however as Terracycle further establishes itself in the UK with additional brands on board, the combined efforts are sure to be positive in incentivizing kids and adults to participate. In preparation for British citizen engagement, Terracycle recently launched a Twitter account for its operations there.
