Sharp's New Ads Make Leap from LCDs to Solar Panels
July 15, 2008 - Sharp Electronics is looking to build on its momentum as a leader in the energy-efficient LCD TV market with a new ad campaign touting its solar panel business as well, MediaPost reports.
The company is looking to attract a growing market of consumers who want to reduce their carbon footprint by making more responsible purchases.
"When consumers go to their dealer for solar panels, we want them to think about the same Sharp Aquos TVs they have in their home," says Neal Lattner, senior marketing director for the Sharp marketing and communications group.
The campaign will link Sharp's two top-selling products with a pair of similar taglines: "Change your TV, change your life." and "Change your power, change your planet."
The marketing push appears to support the company's strategic shift toward greener products. In January, Sharp announced plans to boost production of LCDs and solar panels, which together make up the bulk of the company's business.
The new ads will run on sports stations through September and then on educational cable channels such as History and Discovery A&E through the end of the year. Print ads will rotate through high-profile news magazines and newspapers including Newsweek and the New York Times.
Sharp has also launched a microsite and Facebook application to support the campaign.
