150 Global Business Leaders Call for Binding U.N. Framework on Climate
Nov. 30, 2007 Business leaders from 150 of the biggest companies and brands in the world are calling for a "comprehensive, legally binding" United Nations framework to tackle climate change.
The so-called "Bali Communique," released in advance of the U.N.'s upcoming climate conference on December 3, also calls for science-based emissions targets and greater effort on the part of the world's most industrialized countries.
The Prince of Waless Corporate Leaders Groups on Climate Change, which issued the statement, calls it "an unprecedented coming together of the international business community," although its effect remains unclear.
U.N. delegates are gathering in Bali to create a plan for negotiations on a new global climate pact, to come into effect when the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012.
