Abbot Targets Greenhouse Gas Reductions

Dec. 5, 2007 Health care giant Abbott has pledged to reduce its total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions 2% from 2006 levels by 2011.

"Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions demonstrates our corporate-wide commitment to improving the environment and increasing the efficiency of our operations," says Michael Warmuth, vice president of global engineering services.

The company has been a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Climate Leaders program since 2006. Earlier this year, Abbott became the first Fortune 500 company to commit to a carbon-neutral vehicle fleet, aiming to use greener cars and purchase carbon credits to offset the remaining emissions.
