Coca-Cola Expands NYC Green Fleet

Nov. 30, 2007 Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) has announced plans to add 123 hybrid vehicles to its delivery fleet in New York City.

Coke currently operates two hybrid trucks and 90 standard trucks at its Bronx distribution center. The company says it will add three more hybrids this month, with plans to add an additional 120 in 2008.

In announcing the new program, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said: "Sustainable business practices will save businesses money in the long run. That's why we're seeing support for converting the taxi fleet to hybrids, major rental companies like Hertz converting their fleets, and its why a leader in product distribution like Coca-Cola Enterprises has made this commitment."

In May, Mayor Bloomberg set such stringent emission standards for New York's yellow cabs that the entire fleet will likely convert to hybrid. In June, Hertz Rental Cars announced that it would convert a major portion of its New York fleet to hybrid vehicles.
