Fujitsu Joins EPA's SmartWay Partnership

Sept. 9, 2008 - Fujitsu Computer Systems is the latest major company to join the U.S. EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership, agreeing to slash climate emissions from freight operations - and help recruit other Fujitsu companies and its own shipping vendors to the program.

As a SmartWay Transport partner, Fujitsu has also pledged to:

  • Incorporate partnership status into the contract bidding process, giving preference to SmartWay Transport partners
  • Incorporate environmental clauses into shipping contracts
  • Develop employee awareness programs focused on SmartWay Transport Partnership strategies

Launched in 2004, the SmartWay Partnership is a voluntary collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and organizations committed to reducing greenhouse gases in their freight operations.

As a member of the SmartWay Partnership, Fujitsu will contribute to the program's goal to reduce 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012.
