McAfee Audits Climate Emissions from Annual Sales Meeting

April 3, 2008 - The results weren't all that shocking - about 90% of the event's climate emissions came from air travel - but McAfee's environmental audit of its annual sales meeting, which drew 1,800 employees to Las Vegas earlier this year, did pay dividends. The company reduced non-air travel carbon emissions by 16%, offsetting the remaining emissions through investment in reforestation projects.

The project, a first for McAfee, measured the company's environmental savings from implementing green meeting strategies such as encouraging attendees to share hotel rooms, providing airport shuttle service to cut down on individual taxi rides, and participating in the hotel's towel reuse program.

Excluding air travel, the biggest contributers to the event's carbon footprint were food, hotel rooms, and amenities such as ground transportation.
