National Grid Releases First CSR Report, Pledges 60% Emissions Cut

Dec. 18, 2007 - Global energy company National Grid has released its first U.S. sustainability report, pledging to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions 60% by 2050. The company also aims to power its entire operations with renewable energy within the next three years.

The report, the company's first to focus specifically on its sustainability programs in the U.S., highlights the three key themes of climate change, safety, and reliability.

This report is more than just about climate change," Tom King, National Grid executive director of Electricity Distribution and Generation. "We want to be completely open about how we aim to operate responsibly in everything we do, and this report gives our public in the U.S. a great view of that."

The report follows the Global Reporting Initiative's Sustainability Reporting Guidelines (GRI G3), an international framework for measuring and reporting corporate environmental impacts.
