Online Self-Booking Helps Drive Greener Business Travel Decisions
Feb. 12, 2008 – Corporate travel policies are increasingly governed by environmental concerns as more companies allow their employees to book their own business trips online, according to a new survey from the Association of Corporate Travel Executives and travel solutions firm KDS. Fifty-nine percent of companies now have a corporate responsibility charter - double the number from two years ago - and the same percent of their travelers (59%) say they are looking to these charters to make greener travel decisions.
"Travelers are becoming increasingly eco-conscious and their travel booking behavior is starting to impact corporate travel management," says Stanislas Berteloot, marketing director of KDS. "With 69% of corporations now using a self-booking tool, the communication of sustainable travel guidelines is facilitated. Travel managers now need to think of using online tools to not only control costs, but also to travel smarter and greener."
Despite the proliferation of corporate CSR policies, however, relatively few companies have posted green guidelines specific to travel. Of the 59% with CSR charters, only about a third have implemented sustainable travel policies.
