Sony, Other Top Companies to Pressure Suppliers on Emissions Reduction

Feb. 18, 2008 - Sony is leading a dozen high-profile corporations, including HP, Nokia, and Nike, in calls for global business to take more of a leadership role in combating climate change. The so-called Tokyo Declaration, signed at the Climate Savers summit co-hosted by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Sony in Tokyo last week, targets a 50% reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Companies participating in the WWF's Climate Savers program must set ambitious emission reduction targets and pledge to "promote and enable a low-carbon lifestyle" among their customers. As signatories of the Tokyo agreement, the companies now pledge to reach out to their suppliers and business partners as well, urging them to undertake effective steps to reduce climate pollution.
