ExxonMobil Makes a Better Hybrid Battery
Nov. 29, 2007 ExxonMobil Chemical has developed a new battery technology that could make the next generation of hybrid and electric vehicles more energy efficient and more affordable.
The company has introduced new separator films that improve the power and reliability of lithium-ion batteries, which are commonly used in lower-emission vehicles. Lithium-ion batteries are smaller and lighter than traditional car batteries.
By boosting battery power, the new film technology could speed the adoption of hybrid and electric cars, according to ExxonMobil. The company says it is working with battery manufacturers on new applications for lower-emission vehicles.
