Nov. 27, 2007 The first keyboard assembly the rollout tray that houses a computer keyboard below the surface of an office desk has received Cradle-to-Cradle Certification from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry.
Products certified under the Cradle-to-Cradle standard must "close the loop" whenever possible, using recycled-content manufacturing materials that can be recycled or reused once the product has reach end of life.
The assembly features a keyboard mechanism, platform, and palmrest all made from recycled-content materials. The mechanism that rolls the platform out from beneath the desk is made from 98% recycled steel. The keyboard platform uses 100% recycled kraft paper content, and the palmrest is made from a proprietary waterborne urethane that is 100% recyclable.
The product is manufactured by Details, a Steelcase subsidiary.
