Sun's Open Work Program Downsizes Office Space by 15%
Oct. 5, 2007 Sun's Open Work program helped reduce the company's need for office space by more than 15% or 2.6 million square feet in 2007, according to its second annual corporate social responsibility report.
By reducing its total office space, Sun says it has cut its overall energy use and greenhouse gas output and saved on energy bills. Last year the company saved $63.9 million in real estate costs thanks to its Open Work program, according to WorldChanging.
A U.S. EPA June 2007 report (PDF) estimates that as much as 30% of the energy consumed in office buildings is wasted.
