Stop & Shop, Giant Foods to Pilot LEED for Real Estate Portfolios
Nov. 7, 2007 The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company and its sister company, Giant Foods, have been selected to participate in the U.S. Green Building Council's pilot program for its LEED high-volume certification.
USGBC's Portfolio Program integrates the LEED green building rating system for new and existing buildings throughout a company's real estate portfolio.
Participants in the pilot program represent a cross section of market sectors, including institutional investors, financial institutions, hoteliers, retailers, higher education, governments, and corporations. Other program participants include the Transwestern real estate firm and PNC Bank.
USGBC says it plans to officially launch the portfolio program in 2008. Volume certification for large-scale homebuilders could also eventually become part of LEED for Homes.
