Array Networks' New AppVelocity Platform Uses 60% Less Power

April 3, 2008 - Array Networks is touting the energy-efficiency of its new line of application delivery controllers - datacenter network devices that reduce load on web servers by taking over some of the functions commonly performance by websites. The company's AppVelocity products reduce network bandwidth by 30% while using 60% less energy.

“It’s not just about how much power you consume, but also the efficiency at which you consume the power,” Sunil Cherian, vice president of product marketing at Array Networks, tells Network World. “We are able to operate at a fairly consistent level of efficiency, regardless of how much power is being drawn from the line. That allows us to reduce our own power consumption significantly,” Cherian says.

The company had to redesign the platform to take advantage of the product's new, energy-efficient power supply, according to Cherian.
