HP Pledges to Boost PC Energy Efficiency by 25%

Jan. 9, 2008 Hewlett-Packard has committed to reduce the energy consumption of its desktop and notebook PCs by 25% within the next three years. Making the announcement at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, HP said it aims to meet its new goal by focusing on energy-efficient power supplies, low-energy chipsets, and advanced power management technologies.

HP also now leads the industry in the number of products registered to EPEAT Gold, the highest designation of the EPEAT green-electronics rating system. The company has introduced more than two dozen PCs registered at either the Gold or Silver rating levels.

HP for decades has been integrating environmentally responsible components and processes across the entire product lifecycle, says HP executive vice president Todd Bradley. We are dedicated to meeting our energy consumption goal of 25% reduction by 2010, and these additional EPEAT-Gold registrations exemplify how HP leads the IT market in reducing the environmental impact of its products and business processes.

New HP business products meeting the EPEAT Gold standard include the Compaq dc7800 Ultra Slim Desktop PC (pictured) which, at less than half the size of previous desktop models, uses less energy and comes standard with an 85% efficient power supply. All products in the dc7800 series come equipped with remote power management software that can reduce power consumption on PCs and monitors by up to 33%.

This year's Consumer Electronics Show is providing a high-profile platform for companies to introduce their latest green product offerings.
