IT Managers Wary of Suppliers' Green Claims

March 19, 2008 - While most IT departments are working to implement green programs and practices, many datacenter managers question equipment vendors' claims on environmental performance, according to a new survey from Aperture Research Institute, a market research firm.

IT managers are having to sift through more green pitches than ever, according to the report. Nearly nine in ten (87%) of those surveyed say they have noticed a green angle coming through in marketing materials. Forty-two percent of respondents say they have no way to validate those claims, and 26% percent call them "outright hype." Only 19% call such pitches "exactly what they want to hear."

Most respondents say they they're more likely to respond positively to the environmental argument if it's couched in terms of energy efficiency (and therefore cost savings), the report notes.
