Clorox's Green Play: A Burt's Bees Buyout

Nov. 1, 2007 Burt's Bees has become the latest feel-good green brand to be snapped up by a major corporation.

Clorox is acquiring the company for $925 million as part of a strategic push into the green market. The company is planning to roll out its Green Works line of cleaning products later this year.

This acquisition allows us to enter a growing market thats consistent with consumer megatrends, says Clorox Chairman and CEO Donald R. Knauss. With this transaction, were entering into a new strategic phase for our company, enabling us to expand further into the natural/sustainable business platform."

Burt's Bees CEO John Replogle says the company will continue its strong commitment to sustainability, Ad Age reports. "We're going to continue to run the business with the same team and the same principles with the same integrity of the natural products and sustainability that we always have," he says.
