Cisco Launches Long-Term Sustainability Program in China

Nov. 2, 2007 Cisco says it plans to invest up to $16 billion over the next three to five years to strengthen a long-term corporate strategy in China that "aligns with the country's sustainability goals."

As part of the program, Cisco will establish its first green technology center to research solutions for sustainable development, energy efficiency, reduction of electronic waste, and emission reductions inside and outside of China. The center will also supplement the work of the company's R&D teams in China, which are focusing on green product technologies such as application specific integrated circuits (ASIC) power efficiency design.

Cisco says it will also significantly boost local procurement. In the past five years, Cisco has purchased more than $7 billion worth of China-sourced components and services.
