CH2M HILL Cuts Paper Use 23%
March 24, 2008 - CH2M HILL's paper use per employee dropped 23% last year, far surpassing its goal to reduce paper consumption by 5% in 2007. Overall paper use declined by 4 metric tons even as the construction giant took on new office staff.
CH2M HILL credits its environmental management system, launched in 2005, for the paper savings. The company also increased its purchases of recycled-content paper by 5% - to a total of 73% - in 2007. (By reducing paper use and buying more recycled-content paper CH2M HILL saved 4,315 trees, according to Environmental Defense's online paper calculator.)
The company aims to cut paper use per employee an additional 5% next year.
