Daimler Plans All-Electric Mercedes by 2010

June 23, 2008 - Come 2010, Daimler devotees will have a choice between a new battery-powered Smart car and an all-electric version of the automaker's iconic Mercedes, Reuters reports. "We plan an electric Smart for 2010 and for the same year a Mercedes [electric] model as well," Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche told reporters at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.

Daimler is planning a small rollout of fuel cell vehicles for 2010 as well, Zetsche says.

2010 is shaping up to be a banner year for electric vehicles. A slew of carmakers have announced their own plans for electric vehicles by 2010, most recently Mitsubishi and Peugeot.
