Global Green Launches Sustainability Program for the Hospitality Industry
Jan. 22, 2008 -- Hotel managers looking to bring their operations into line with green standards and practices have a new resource at their disposal. The nonprofit Global Green Hospitality Consortium (GGHC), a program of the Global Green Energy Consortium, offers guidance and green-product certification to help members of the hospitality industry achieve their sustainability goals.
GGHC members receive advice and training to help them achieve certification from green associations such as the U.S. Green Building Council as well as state and federal programs including the U.S. EPA Green Partnership and Energy Star.
"GGHC will work within any framework a hotel property identifies by providing the practical tools and skilled assistance to implement the desired standards,"ƒ¢â‚¬Å¡ƒâ€š‚ says GGHC chief marketing officer Kim Karch. "The intention is not to duplicate existing or impending green hospitality standards. On the contrary, GGHC services are designed to facilitate the implementation of sustainable initiatives industrywide."
In addition, GGHC will offer evaluation and certification of energy-saving hospitality products and services.
"GGHC sustainability and green energy solutions certification will provide the industry with the opportunity to achieve desired ROIs,"ƒ¢â‚¬Å¡ƒâ€š‚ says Zacharie Mondel, chief operating officer of GGHC. Validation of a products ROI claims, technical specifications, features, and functions will help hospitality property owners make educated purchasing decisions and avoid lengthy and costly trials for both vendors and property owners."
GGHC says it will eventually provide members with a referral database of green solutions providers, building owners, developers, managers, and energy market managers.
