IBM, TNT, Chipotle Named 2008 "Green Pioneers"
July 18, 2008 - The results are in for this year's "Sustainable Business 20" (SB20) - an annual ranking of the world's top 20 sustainable business stocks.
Now in its seventh year, the SB20 ranks "companies, large and small, that are helping to create an environmentally sustainable society."
New to the list this year, the winners are organized into three categories: Green Building, Renewable Energy, and Corporate Pioneers - companies with conventional products and services that are greening their product lines.
Corporate Pioneers that got the nod this year include:
- IBM, for designing technologies to cut energy use in their own and customers' datacenters by half by 2010 while increasing computer capacity by a factor of ten.
- Netherlands-based postal carrier TNT, for committing to become the first zero-emissions transportation company.
- Chipotle Mexican Grill, for serving more locally sourced produce and 100% free range pork and chicken in all its 730 restaurants.
