JetBlue "Jetting to Green"
May 21, 2008 - JetBlue Airways has introduced a suite of initiatives aimed at reducing the airline's environmental impact, from offering a customer carbon-offset program to developing new biofuels for commercial aircraft. Under the new program, dubbed "Jetting to Green," JetBlue is partnering with Airbus, Honeywell Aerospace, and International Aero Engines to convert plant oils into viable aviation fuels.
JetBlue says it is establishing new operational procedures that minimize its environmental footprint and will publish an environmental and social report on its progress.
The airline has also launched a community engagement program aimed at encouraging crewmembers to volunteer in their areas. JetBlue customers can get in on the green act by offsetting their carbon dioxide emissions from air travel through Carbonfund.org.
"Jetting to Green is an environmental campaign with a comprehensive approach," says Icema Gibbs, director of community relations for JetBlue Airways. "The program invites our customers to join us as we take immediate action to reduce our environmental impact through volunteerism and carbon offsetting, but it also promotes environmental improvements for the future through educational initiatives and industry research and development.
JetBlue is kicking off the new program with a sweepstakes to win a Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle and other green prizes. Find out more about Jetting to Green here.
