JohnsonDiversey Beats Greener-Cleaner Deadline by Two Years
July 11, 2008 - JohnsonDiversey, the maker of industrial cleaning products, has removed air-polluting ingredients from its floor care line two full years ahead of the deadline set by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
The new CARB standard, slated to take effect in 2011, will cap volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at 1% of product volume. Floor finishes typically contain high levels of VOCs, which can negatively affect air quality.
JohnsonDiversey began the reformulation process with its top-selling Signature floor finish, lowering the product's VOC content by 40%. All 15 of the company's industrial floor finishes, sold under brand names of Johnson Wax Professional and Butcher's, are currently being reformulated to meet CARB's new VOC standard.
The reformulation is paying unexpected dividends with customers, according to company president and CEO Ed Lonergan.
“Feedback from more than 100 customer trials concluded the reformulation actually gave Signature an even higher initial shine without any loss of durability and burnishing capability,” he reports.
