Kodak Making Big Gains on "Responsible Growth"

April 24, 2008 - Two years in, Kodak has released an interim report citing "substantial progress" on its companywide environmental, health, and safety program, dubbed Responsible Growth.

Some of the biggest gains so far relate to climate management. Since 2006, Kodak has slashed energy use 30% and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 28% from 2002 levels. The company also externally certified and publicly reported its GHG emissions for the years 2002 to 2006.

Kodak is also targeting materials use, recovery, and recycling. For example, the company has redesigned the packaging for its Nexpress Dryink products to use 23% less material. It also reports recycling or repurposing 42 million pounds of printing waste through its Printer's EnviroServices Program. A new partnership with Wal-Mart aims to recycle two million pounds of plastic annually from in-store photo kiosks.

Kodak's Responsible Growth program was launched two years ago after the company hit its existing environmental, health, and safety goals for manufacturing well ahead of schedule. Read more about the company's sustainability policies and performance here.
