Sam's Club Plugs Energy Efficiency, Water Conservation Products
Aug. 22, 2008 - Nine Sam's Club locations in southern California have created Home Efficiency Centers highlighting eco-efficient products and appliances that help consumers save money on utility bills.
Sam's Club says it is working with several utilities to offer more efficient product options for the home and business that could help reduce energy and water consumption. Items include a full line of Energy Star appliances as well as low-flow toilets and advanced high-efficiency shower heads.
In addition, Sam's Club is teaming up with Borrego Solar Systems, a provider of solar electric power systems, and BP Solar, a provider of photovoltaic solar panels, to create in-store informational kiosks promoting the long-term benefits of solar energy. Through this partnership, purchasers are entitled to an average $500 discount on the cost of their solar energy system, in addition to any government utility rebates or tax credits.
A spokesman for Sam's Club says the retail chain is "optimistic" that it will be able to expand the program to more of its clubs.
