Siemens, Suez, Iberdrola Top New Environmental Opportunities Index
June 27, 2008 - FTSE Group has launched an index of energy, water, and waste management companies best positioned to turn environmental challenges to business advantage.
The FTSE Environmental Opportunities All-Share Index is made up of more than 450 companies that make a minimum 20% of their revenue from emerging environmental markets or technologies.
The new index is designed to "appeal to institutional and retail investors who want to gain exposure to and track the performance of those companies who are transforming their businesses to increasingly source revenues from global environmental markets," according to Will Oulton, head of responsible investment at FTSE.
At launch, the top ten listed companies in the FTSE Environmental Opportunities Index are:
Top-ranked Siemens AG, the electronics giant, recently announced that it's on track to pull in 25 billion Euro a year in green-product sales by 2011.
