Tyson Foods Cuts Water Use 15%, Ups Renewable Energy Output

April 2, 2008 - Tyson Foods has slashed water use by 15% per pound of product over the past two years, according to the company's latest corporate sustainability report. The world's largest meat producer, which publishes updates on its sustainability progress every two years, says more water efficiency measures are on tap for 2008.

The company has also pledged to produce up to 250 million gallons of renewable fuel a year from animal fat within the next four years. Last April, Tyson partnered with energy giant ConocoPhillips on a $100 million, multiyear project to produce 175 million gallons of diesel fuel from pork fat rendered during meat processing.
