Virgin CEO Wants to Create a Climate Change "War Room"
Feb. 14, 2008 - Virgin CEO and billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson thinks it's time to create a "war room" to address global warming, Associated Press reports. Speaking at a United Nations follow-up event to last year's climate talks in Bali, Indonesia, Branson outlined a kind of international command center to sift the best ideas on mitigating climate change, to be lead by a world-recognized expert in the field.
"The 'war room' will be independent of politics," Branson said. "But in the end it will need the United Nations, governments, and other organizations to help make sure implementation happens."
At the same event, New York mayor Michael Bloomberg called for the United States to enact a tax on carbon emissions, and urged Congress to create "real and binding" targets for emissions reduction.
