Wipro Launches Green Support Groups for Employees

July 24, 2008 - India's leading IT provider calls them "eco chapters" - office-based outreach programs dedicated to engaging employees on green issues so they can apply their learnings to company projects.

"The eco chapters will give the employees a platform for greater ecological awareness, appreciation, and action," Wipro said in a statement.

Emphasis on "action": Individual chapters will contribute to current Wipro projects by "evangelizing, contributing innovative ideas, and implementing employee-driven solutions" for reducing environmental impact, according to the company.

Wipro plans to utilize the knowledge of employees currently involved in programs such as rain water harvesting and waste recycling to build chapter activities.

Nine eco chapters have already begun in Wipro offices all over the India, and there has has been tremendous interest so far. More than 1,800 employees have registered at just three chapters, Wipro says.
