Xerox's New Online Calculator Shows Business Benefits of Eco-Efficiency

March 26, 2008 - Xerox has created an online calculator to help customers pinpoint ways to green their office printing and copying. The new tool enables companies to evaluate their current equipment and identify the environmental and financial benefits of switching to more resource-efficient technologies.

Xerox's Sustainability Calculator uses proprietary algorithms and research data to evaluate the environmental performance of printer and copier devices from a range of product manufacturers, assessing relative environmental benefits in terms of energy and paper use, solid waste, water and air impacts, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The same people who are environmentally conscious at home are starting to bring this awareness to work, but in many cases, they dont know where to start," says John Kelly, president, Xerox Global Services North America. "The Sustainability Calculator...provides customers with actionable recommendations to help them achieve their green objectives and, in doing so, realize cost-savings and efficiency gains that come with an optimized office environment.

Xerox is hoping its new environmental assessment tool will help companies make the business case for upgrading office equipment. For example, Xerox says, defense contractor Northrup Grumman recently consolidated its printing and copying devices in one department from more than 2,000 machines to less than 1,100 - reducing energy use 27%, greenhouse gas emissions 26%, and solid waste generation 33%, according to the Sustainability Calculator.
