Climate Change Not a Priority for Big Business, Survey Shows
Nearly nine in ten large companies say climate change doesn't rate among their top priorities, taking a back seat to traditional business concerns such as competition, operational costs, innovation and technology, and the quest for new products and services. The Independent reports the results of a new Accenture survey showing that just 5% of big businesses consider global warming a top priority, and only 11% peg it at second or third place. Read more...

Wal-Mart Fires Up First Sam's Club Solar Array
Wal-Mart has completed a 390-kilowatt solar power system at its Sam's Club store in Chino — the first of seven California locations to receive solar array under an agreement with solar provider SunPower. Wal Mart has purchased a total of 4.6 megawatts of solar power from SunPower and other solar providers for 22 Wal-Mart stores, Sam's Clubs, and distribution centers in Hawaii and California. Coke to Slash Carbon Emissions at European Bottling Plants
The Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company has unveiled plans to install 15 combined heat and power (CHP) plants at bottling facilities in 12 European countries. Coke estimates the new CHP systems will cut carbon emissions at each bottling plant by more than 40%. Read more...
Intel Announces Green Power Buying Spree
Intel is set to overtake PepsiCo as the largest purchaser of green power in the U.S. The tech giant will purchase more than 1.3 billion kilowatt hours a year in renewable energy certificates (RECs), a record-setting purchase that the company hopes will help stimulate the market for green power. U.S. States Urge FTC to Protect Against Carbon Offset Fraud
California and nine other U.S. states have sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requesting that the regulatory agency tighten its restrictions on carbon offset providers, claiming current guidelines leave too much room to "manipulate the system." Read more...
Dole Converts Farming Equipment to Biodiesel
Dole Fresh Vegetables, a division of Dole Food Company, has converted farming equipment at two of its major agricultural operations to B20 biodiesel, a blend of 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel. All harvesting equipment at the company's Salinas, Calif., and in Yuma, Ariz., operations now run on B20. Read more...

TerraPass's Carbon Calculator for Business
Carbon offset provider TerraPass has created a free online calculator to help businesses assess their carbon footprints. Called Carbon Balanced Business, the new tool encourages companies to first calculate and then offset their carbon emissions via TerraPass green products and offsets. Read more...
