65% of IT Managers Expect to Run Out of Power Within Five Years
Datacenter energy consumption jumped 30% last year, far outpacing U.S. EPA predictions for 9% growth, according to a new study from Uptime Research. New Power System Safeguards IT Operations Using 75% Less Energy
CyberPower, a manufacturer of backup systems for IT equipment, has introduced a new uninterruptible power supply (UPS) technology that draws 75% less energy than similar products. IT Managers Wary of Suppliers' Green Claims
While most IT departments are working to implement green programs and practices, many datacenter managers question equipment vendors' claims on environmental performance, according to a new survey from Aperture Research Institute, a market research firm. 76% of Companies Don't Monitor IT Energy Costs, Survey Finds
A new CIO magazine survey IT executives finds that only a quarter of respondents currently measure their carbon footprint and, of those, just 11% include energy use from IT operations in their calculations. The figures are hardly surprising given some of the study's other findings; 76% of the companies don't even keep track of their IT-related energy spending. Read more...
Barclays Taps HP Technology for New Green Datacenter
Barclays’ planned datacenter in Gloucester, U.K., will be the first in Europe to use Hewlett-Packard's Dynamic Smart Cooling technology, a system that monitors and automatically adjusts air temperature to maximize cooling functions. The bank estimates that its new datacenter, slated for completion in February 2009, will be about 13% more energy efficient and save more than 7,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide from release each year.
