New Hitachi Hard Drive Cuts Energy Use 40%
Hitachi has unveiled what it bills as "the world's most energy-efficient hard drive." The new Deskstar P7K500 uses 40% less energy than its predecessor, the T7K500, and significantly less power than competitive hard drives in its class, according to Hitachi.

Dell's Top Five Tips for Greening IT at SMEs
Noting that businesses of all sizes and sectors can save energy and boost profits through green IT, Dell offers smaller enterprises these five tips for maximizing efficiency. (via ComputerWeekly)
- Save on paper by changing default settings on printers and photocopiers to print double sided.
- Reduce the amount of office space needed by giving employees the option to work from home and use "hot desks" (shared temporary workspaces) when in the office.
- Improve energy efficiency by investing in server consolidation and virtualization technologies.
- Maximize hardware performance by purchasing energy-efficient IT products such as next-generation servers.
- Give computers a second live by recycling or donating used equipment.
