HP Releases New CSR Report, Names Top Suppliers

Hewlett-Packard has published its 2007 corporate responsibility report, announcing that the company has already reached its goal to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions 20% below 2005 levels by 2010. HP also says extensive supplier audits reveal "strong progress" toward achieving environmental goals; in a bid toward greater transparency, the tech giant has published a a list of its largest suppliers - an industry first. Wal-Mart, Sara Lee Launch Sustainable Coffee Brands
The U.S. market for sustainable coffees got a big boost this week, with Wal-Mart and Sara Lee both debuting their own brands. Wal-Mart has launched six varieties of Fairtrade-certified coffees under its Sam's Choice label, while Sara Lee - the world's third largest coffee producer - has introduced its Good Origin sustainable coffee to the U.S. market. Half of Wal-Mart Suppliers Still Foot-Dragging on Packaging Scorecard
Half of Wal-Mart suppliers missed the Feb. 1 deadline for completing the retail giant's Sustainable Packaging Scorecard, and the percentage hasn't improved much since then, the [Arkansas] Morning News reports. Many suppliers argue that the scorecard oversimplifies the manufacturing process and puts undue financial burdens on the supply chain. Read more...

P&G on the Lookout for "Sustainable Innovation" Products
Proctor & Gamble aims to develop a $20 billion market over the next five years for what it calls "sustainable innovation" products - products that perform 10% better than their competitors in one of six environmental categories. Peter White, P&G's head of sustainability, told ClimateChangeCorp.com that the company is re-evaluating everything from detergents to diapers in an effort to create greener products that will appeal to consumers.
