Report: Smartest Companies Have Greenest Supply Chains
A new report establishes what top-performing companies already know - that greener supply chains deliver business benefits in energy cost reduction, logistics cost reduction, and perceived competitive advantage. The report, from research firm Aberdeen Group, grilled supply chain execs about their sustainability efforts, revealing that the most successful (or "best-in-class") companies were more likely to have had green supply chain initiatives in place for at least a year, and to have redesigned key parts of their supply chains to be green. Foodservice operator Sodexo is re-outfitting its 6,000 U.S. sites with a new computer-controlled dishwashing system that maximizes operational efficiency. Staples, FedEx Kinko's Make the Green Grade for Paper Sourcing
FedEx Kinko’s and Staples are making significant progress in their paper purchasing, while OfficeMax has been doing the least to back up its green spin with concrete actions, according to a new report from ForestEthics and Dogwood Alliance. The environmental groups took out a full-page ad in USA Today last week highlighting the latest edition of their "Green Grades" report card on paper sourcing policies in office products industry.
