International Paper Helps Marketers Green Product Packaging

Oct. 11, 2007 Shorewood Packaging, a subsidiary of International Paper, has launched a program to help marketers develop more sustainable packaging for their products and displays, packagePrinting reports.

Shorewood's new "greenchoice" service includes top-to-bottom analysis of current packaging solutions, with recommendations for improving environmental performance to meet sustainability goals. The program helps clients identify opportunities for:

  • sourcing renewable, recycled-content, recyclable paper and paperboard
  • replacing less desirable packaging with renewable materials
  • using environmentally preferable inks and coatings
  • applying resource-efficient design principles ("right-sizing")
  • greening the supply chain, including climate impact

Shorewood says its greenchoice packaging solutions meet the criteria established by the Sustainable Packaging Coalition as well as Wal-Mart's "7 R's" of sustainable packaging remove, reduce, reuse, renew,. recycle, revenue, and read.
