Simon & Schuster Unveils Green Paper Policy

Nov. 8, 2007 Simon & Schuster has implemented a new paper sourcing policy that will increase the amount of recycled-content fiber in its paper from 10% to 25% by 2012, Book Standard reports.

The move represents a 150% increase in recycled fiber use for S&S, which purchases 70,000 tons of paper each year, according to the article.

In addition, the publisher says it will try to eliminate the use of fiber from endangered and old-growth forests and plans to purchase shipping cartons made from 100% recycled post-consumer paper.

Carolyn K. Reidy, who will become president and CEO of Simon & Schuster in 2008, says, "We look forward to working with our vendors and partners in the supply chain, and our colleagues at other publishing houses and in other industries to create a robust marketplace for recycled fiber, to encourage responsible forest management practices, and to continue to find ways in which we can have a positive impact on the environment."
