Burt's Bees Chooses Labelmaker Based on Water Efficiency

Feb. 26, 2008 - Burt's Bees selected a key supplier for printing flyers and product labels based on the company's efforts to reduce water use during production processes, NBC17.com reports. North Carolina-based Cary Printing scored the contract after investing in water-saving equipment such as a new plate processor and developer.

“[The new equipment] has allowed us to save a lot of water and also reduce chemical consumption,” says Cary Printing's Doug May. He estimates that the changes will help the company save 15,000 to 20,000 gallons of water each month. The new processor alone uses half the water its predecessor did, according to May.

Burt's Bees CEO John Replogle says his company actively seeks out "partners that would help us develop and define solutions to the environmental crisis."
