Cisco Debuts TelePresence for Large Meetings, Small Offices
May 14, 2008 - Cisco has unveiled two new versions of its TelePresence videoconferencing system spanning both ends of the meeting-size spectrum, from one-on-one conversations to large training sessions.
The TelePresence System 500 integrates a 37-inch display, camera, microphone, and speakers into a single configuration that can be placed on a desk or mounted on the wall. The smaller system can either support one-on-one meetings or enable employees to join larger group meetings from personal workspaces. It may also provide a lower-cost solution for medium-sized businesses to meet with partners, customers, or suppliers, Cisco suggests.
The TelePresence System 3200, featuring a "virtual table" with a second row of seating for larger venues, can accommodate up to 18 meeting participants. The larger system is best for group training and cross-functional team meetings, according to Cisco.
The 500 and 3200 systems join the 1000 and 3000 in Cisco's suite of TelePresence products.
Videoconferencing has gained traction as more companies seek to minimize the cost and environmental impact of business travel. A recent survey pegged the practice as the top strategy for greening business.
