"Corn Cards" Replace PVC-Plastic IDs, Hotel Keys, Gift Cards
May 22, 2008 - Advantidge, a provider of card systems and services, has entered the growing bioplastics market with a new line of card products derived from corn.
The new bioplastic "corn cards" include photo IDs for schools and companies, membership cards, hotel room key cards, and gift and loyalty cards. The 100% biodegradable cards are made from a special type of corn that is not farmed for human consumption, Advantidge says.
"Some of the country's largest retailers rely on us to meet their unique needs," explains Lawrence Grafstein, CEO of Advantidge. "Corn Cards allow us to proactively assist our customers in addressing their 'going green' initiatives."
A number of retailers are experimenting with bioplastic cards. Target, for example, rolled out its own corn-based plastic gift card last December.
