McDonald's Brews Up Fairtrade Tea
March 27, 2008 - McDonald's will soon be offering fairtrade tea at its
1,200 U.K. locations, the Telegraph reports. The fast-food giant has declined to renew its
contract with Tetley in favor of PG Tips, a brand certified by the
Rainforest Alliance.
"Wherever possible we are working to make sustainable products the only option," says Nick Hindle, vice president of corporate affairs at McDonald's. (For more on McDonald's sustainable sourcing policy, click here.)
In October, McDonald's U.K. switched to fairtrade coffee - a move that boosted coffee sales 15%.
