Micro Innovations Introduces Greener Laptop Products, Downsizes Packaging

Feb. 7, 2008 – Micro Innovations has launched a line of energy-saving laptop computer accessories. The products, sold under the "For My Green World" brand, include “smart” surge protectors and a wireless mouse that generates enough electricity to meet its own power needs.

Micro Innovations’ “smart” surge protectors are designed to trim electricity waste when electronics devices are turned off but left plugged into electrical outlets. "The phantom draw of electricity occurs in virtually all home electronics, not just computers," explains Micro Innovations president Jesse Grindeland. "The only way really to cut power is to unplug the appliance. But who will remember or have the time to do that?" The new surge protector acts as a barrier between device and outlet, allowing energy to flow into the device only when it is turned on.

Micro Innovations' new battery-free mouse receives enough electromagnetic energy from the mouse pad to power the mouse.

As part of the For My Green World initiative, Micro Innovations has reduced the packaging for its entire line of laptop accessories by as much as 70%. The company has eliminated PVC plastic from all products and also downsized its clamshells, replacing the Styrofoam with paper made from 50% post-consumer recycled material. All inks and adhesives are RoHS certified, water-based, and nontoxic.

Micro Innovations introduced its green product line at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. Product will be available to retailers in spring 2008.
