Nissan to Require Suppliers to Report on Carbon Emissions
March 27, 2008 - Nissan is set to release new green procurement guidelines requiring parts suppliers to report their carbon emissions from manufacturing processes.
The new guidelines, which replace green procurement standards originally set out 2001, have been drafted to support
the Nissan Green Program 2010 - the company's plan to develop
low-emissions, resource-efficient technologies and products. (Download a brochure on the program here (PDF).)
The revised guidelines also place harsher restrictions on parts and materials that contain toxic substances. "In anticipation of more stringent regulations in the future, Nissan is working to reduce or eradicate the use of certain substances in all new models, launched beginning from July 2007, including heavy metal compounds such as mercury, lead, cadmium and hexavalent chromium and in-cabin VOCs," the company said in a statement.
