New Online Catalog Lists Energy-Efficient Computers

Nov. 28, 2007 The Climate Savers Computing Initiative has launched an online directory of more than 300 energy-saving computing products. The new catalog includes desktop PCs, laptops, servers, power supplies, power supply components, motherboards, and power-management software.

The Climate Savers initiative, launched last June, is a nonprofit industry partnership dedicated to improving the power efficiency and reducing the energy consumption of computers. Founding members include Dell, Google, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, and Microsoft.

The average desktop PC wastes nearly half the power delivered to it, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Energy-efficient computers could cut energy bills by as much as $10 per system per year.
